| CONSCIENCE AND THE ORDER OF LIFE.
Introduction: Let me briefly sum up what was covered in the first lecture by stating the fact that No Truth of Faith is possible except from the Good and Love working through charity, as there can be No True Understanding except from Will. Without Will there is No Understanding, as without Charity there is No Faith. The following information is of the significant importance for it goes right into the foundation of the man's existence and the flow of life itself. Should you choose to incorporate it into your future practice as a guideline of your services, it shall produce wonderful results. Having said that, let me return to the topic at hand.
Conscience: The Will of a modern man is in the state of excessive desire for material gains, often bordering with greed. In order to prevent the immersion of man's Understanding into man's Will of the material desires, the Lord had separated the man's understanding from the man's will by the means of a medium through which He may implant Charity. Without this medium called Conscience, no one ever is saved!
The ancient man had his Will united with Understanding, for that is being a Celestial man. The Regenerated man, as you recall, is the Spiritual man. The modern man has his Understanding separated from Will, and it remains to be so with the Regenerated Spiritual man. When the modern man is engaged in the works of charity, he seems to be doing these from himself. However, this is only an appearance. All works of charity that man performs are of the Lord alone, and are Not done by man's Will, but through his Conscience. Please remember that if the Lord should ever let go even little, and let the man act from his Will, instead of charity man would do evil from hatred, revenge, cruelty, jealousy, etc. (739, 804)
The case is the same with the Truth: unless man thinks and speaks from Conscience, which is from goodness of the Lord, he could never think or speak the Truth. From and on his own, man is always thinking of his own merit and righteousness, and often goes as far as to despise others in comparison with himself. Man own desires are intermingled so, that while they appear outwardly good, they are inwardly filthy.
The ground thus, being prepared in the man's intellectual mind by the Lord's mercy, and when it is done, the goodness of charity is insinuated by the Lord on this ground, giving birth to Conscience. The Lord works the Goodness and the Truth of Faith through man's Conscience and from Conscience man afterwards acts. Thus, the Lord makes Intellectual things of such man distinct from those of his Will, so that they are never united; for if they do, man will perish eternally!
It should be clear to you by now what Regeneration is: it is the separation of man's Intellectual part from his Will part by means of Conscience, which is formed by the Lord in man's Intellectual part. Whatever man does from Conscience appears as if the man does it from his Will, but in reality it is done by the Lord!
Order of Life: All things in the world spring from the Divine, and are enclosed in such material forms that enables them not only to exist, but to perform useful functions. Take the bees for example. They know how to gather the honey from the flowers, and to build cell out of wax in which they store honey, providing food for themselves and their family through the months of winter. The queen lays eggs to give birth to a new generation and the rest of bees take care of them. They live under the sort of government or order known to them by instinct: they preserve the working bees and cast out the drones. All animals of this Earth and birds of the air are born into this instinctual knowledge, while the Man, who is superior to them, is not! The reason is that the animals are in order of their life and had not been able to destroy what is in them from the Spiritual world, due to the lack of the rational faculty.
Man, on the other hand, whose thought is from the Spiritual world, had perverted what is in him from that world by the life style that is contrary to the order through his rational faculty, by favoring, reasoning, and justifying this disorderly life style of his choice, as good and in order! As a consequence of such choice, man is born into ignorance and afterwards is led by Divine means back into the Order!
There are three things in man that concur and unite together; they are Natural, Spiritual and Celestial. Man's natural receives all life from the Spiritual. The Spiritual receives all life from the Celestial. And the Celestial receives all life from the Lord alone, who is the Life itself! In other words, the natural is like a vessel into which the Spiritual is being poured. The Spiritual is like a vessel into which the Celestial is being poured. Thus, through the Celestial life comes from the Lord and works its way down, so to speak, into the man physical. Such is the flow of Life!
The Celestial is all the Goodness of Faith. In the Spiritual man, it is the good of Charity. The Spiritual is the Truth of Faith, which never really becomes that, unless there is in it the good of faith, that is, the good of charity, in which there is the Life itself from the Lord. (880; 2)
The Lord speaks with every man, for whatever good and true man wills and thinks is from the Lord. There are with every man at least two evil spirits and two angels. The evil spirits excite man's evils, inherited and acquired, while the angels inspire in man things that are Good and True. Everything angels inspire in man is of the Lord; thus the Lord is continually speaking with man through Angels, but differently with one man than with another. (904) The Lord is not so much present in the Faith alone, but is in the Love toward the neighbor, for He is in all good! Therefore, when man is in such love, he is merciful to others, loves them and is willing to make them happy, and thus is conjoined through this love with the Lord. In this Love, the man is in the image and in the likeness of the Lord! (904;2) From this, it must be clear, that the presents of the Lord is first possible with man when he loves the neighbor. Lord is in the Love; and so far as man is in the love, so far the Lord is present! This is the order and the flow of Life with man; from this is the interaction of man's soul with the body. (904;3, 911)
